I have not bought or sold stock since 2001. I own Echelon from before that time. Yes, I did watch all of my profits disappear. This is about where I initially had bought. Hindsight is 20/20, so I am not going to beat myself up. However, I see a great opportunity to invest in stocks in 2008, so I just added significant funds to my account, and I am ready to go shopping.
Echelon looks awefully tempting at this price, but I am hesitant until I hear the feb 7th CC, as well as see a major contract getting signed. My fear is that all of the trials will end without contracts. Then, swiss and the steak might end up looking like a couple of geniuses.
So, I invite longs, shorts, and everyone else to please give me your opinion about Echelon, then offer me one stock that you feel has been oversold in this market, and could be a winner after we bottom out. No penny stocks please.
the quarter about to be reported will be poor for ELON, as it will for all the competitors. No deals have closed (i.e. revenue generated) and this will start the consolidation process. For example, watch Itron when they report and you'll get a good understanding of what's going (or not going) on. It all comes down to the lack of decision making by the major utility companies. The business is stalled and will be until Q3

There was enough NES backlog to carry into mid 2008, so there is no reason Echelon will disappoint with regard to NES. I'm sure the same is true with Enel. And their 4Q07 LWI target was lower than 4Q06, so that's a low bar to clear.
No - there is no reason for Echelon to disappoint in 4Q07.
2008 is where there may be a problem.
No recommendations but here are some ideas;
PHO and CGW (water/sewer plays) Gold is fine but the most valuable commodity in the world is clean water. Huge issue for China and others that now have the discretionary funds to better their standard of living.
Canadian, Australian and Brazilian funds.
Global brand leaders (PG, KO, CL, etc)
Do you remeber my post about ELON from 14th Sep 2007? "U have 9000 stocks to buy from... Why should U buy ELON?"
Or my 11 reasons (during the month of Oct 2007) why someone should short ELON?
Should you short ELON now? No, there are better shorts. Should you cover yours shorts? No, but ELON will move slowly under $10, maybe under $7.70. Should you sell your ELON stocks? After so many years... you can wait another 10 years and if you are really luck...
I said in the previous message above "sky is falling" and this is still true. The mess is sooo huge and leveraged... we can only hope this will not become a snowball and Ben is a mega genius! Therefore I still think someone should have shorts and longs.
Oh, please don't call me genius!
EZCH, go to http://lanoptics.com/ and due your DD. They make network processors and have 100+ design wins, is a microcap. Too much to list here, but there NP1, NP2, NP3, NP3c and NPA chisp scale from 1 to 100 GBS ...
I am long that stock.
I like ELON, always have! Done some trading but as you may
have noticed ELON can take big swings for no apparent
reason. For right or wrong I have added 9K shares to my
position in January. Last fall I felt comfortable selling on the dips and rebuying later. As to whether there will
be big news coincidental with the cc, who knows? As I
recall ELON generally puts the news out there when it
occurs rather than at cc. I am in ELON for 10 years now,
have drunk the kool-aid...big believer. US utility
interest in modernization is relatively recent. ELON has
had a tough time with big deals other than ENEL. Not
sure what the reason is...maybe they too cisco-ish
and not enuf old school. It should be interesting to
see what recommendations you are offered. All one can do
is follow ones bliss. Whatever the outcome be comfy in ur
