In a previous message I told everyone about a
very interesting and informative article that appeared
recently in USA Today.
The article wason 9/9/98 and
was written by David Lieberman (Page 4b) and it
discusses all the ideas you are rasing about buyouts from
ATT and such. It talks about the importance of the
NYC market to ATT.
It is very informative on
No guestimates right now they are working on
buying NY Yankees
CVC wanted to wait til after World
Series. Insiders don't think CVC allow total buyout maybe
possible merge but not a total takeover. CVC also has
their own phone sys and is working on that. Time will
tell, but talks are in the works. Also at the time
these talks started CVC did a stock split in the 80's
after just recently doing one at 120. I find this
There is more fact than rumor regarding AT&T.
Cablevision owns a good deal of TCI stock, which AT&T already
merged with. If AT&T wants the rest of it they have to
merge with CVC,which as one analyst stated leaved CVC
in a great asking price position.
Nice gain today,(even held up through the
computer sell off)anyone know why. When is the quater
released? I guess those people who shorted got squeezed
today. Shorting this stock is SUICIDE! Go Cablevision
Century is much smaller than CVC so no way to
make a fair evaluation between the two. They don't own
the big city properties that are the big money
But......small cable companies are being snapped up by the six
largest MSO's (multi system operators) like hotcakes...at
many times the multiples traditional media properties
sell for, or deserve for that matter. Yet Wall Street
seems to view this as okay despite the debt loads
incurred. Go figure.
I still like the cable industry
if you are long.
