It has been very awkward for an American President traveling around and talking about "human rights" on the foreign lands in these days.
On February 24, last Thursday, President Bush told a Russian reporter in Slovakia during a visit to Russia:
"I'm perfectly comfortable in telling you, our country is one that safeguards human rights and human dignity, and we resolve our disputes in a peaceful way."
Mr. President may be truly as comfortable as Thomas Jefferson when he wrote the Declare of Independence ("... All men are created equal, ...") while he owned hundreds of slaves at that time. But Mr. President forgot, instead of in 1776, the he is in the age of modern information highway because of the news propagates fast on internet.
Even before his echoes settled down in Slovakia, US Justice Department is pressing the case against the CIA "Global Ghost Prison System" and all human rights groups around the world have been pressing for the inhuman torture in US prison in Guantanamo Bay and US-controlled prison in Abu Ghraib, Iraq .
To avoid the protests from human rights groups and violate the US constitution rights, CIA's "Global Ghost Prison System" is designed to airlift the suspects from US to the foreign country where the secret interrogation and torture can be performed. In such way that US government can have the "clean" hands because the tortures didn't happen in the US territory, and US governmnet is not directly involved with the torture.
Newsweek recently reported that CIA has been operating a Boeing 737, in addition to the previously disclosed a smaller Gulfstream V jet, as part of a top-secret global charter servicing clandestine interrogation facilities to outsource torture to foreign countries.
In talking to the Russian reporter last Thursday, President Bush continued and said:
"I live in a transparent country. I live in a country where decisions made by government are wide open."
Of course, Mr. President forgot to mention that there are some things his government doesn't want it to be open. Things that the government wants to keep secret do have a tendency to get out, and get out faster than the President thought on the modern information highway. Things like the CIA's outsouring torture "Global Ghost Prison System".
Last week, Seymour Hersh of The New Yorker won a Polk Award for his story revealing the torture of prisoners directly under U.S. control at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, a story that rapidly came to include American operations at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
"I pity him for his ignorance and timidness. He thought his mother is still a virgin, as clean as the day she was born. Who ever says his mother not virgin is a communist. But in this case, his mother is not just a virgin, she may have slept with tons of men. He has to grow up and take this as a fact of life."
* Well described for Sucker and His Group!!
sucker is right. The problem of this world is some country, such as United States, wants to criticize other country human rights records but his own human rights record is as bad as any other country in the world. The purpose behind the criticization is to try to get a upper hand in the international diplomacy. The game just embarrasses United States itself and it doesn't work anymore.
Bush has changed the "democracy" into "liberty" recently. He wants to "export liberty" to other countries. He thought the game will become a new game to play if he just changes the name.
auri is right, tsmstrong is an other ugly dirty digger, and, he is a communist, too! hehehe!
There so many ugly diggers on this board now. That will keep com2000 busy for a long while, hehehe!
I never say China has a good democracy or human rights record. As a matter of fact, what I said is: "democracy" and "human rights" are just the political slogans for the common people on the street. These slogans serve it purpose for the people in power, for the people want to get power, and for the countries is getting advantages, or want to get the advantages from other countries. If one wants to dig, he can easily to find out that "there is no nation on earth that violates human rights so much as United States did in its short 200 years of history."
British the Daily Telegraph said when the newly appointed US secretary of State, Condoleezza Rich, visited EU in earlier February this year:
"the conventional windom, after all, is that America is ruthless in advancing its interests."
"An ethical foreign policy ... strike many British people as astonishing."
"selfish strategic or economic interest",
and, "Miss Rice, by contrast, talks without embarrassment about exporting liberty".
It is even funnier when Daily Telegraph reported the way how Miss Rich defended herself, she said
"There cannot be an absence of moral content in American foreign policy, Europeans giggle at this, but we are not European, we are American, and we have different principles."
These kind of nonsense only makes the international relationship worse, not better.
All the Chinese Americans want to see a good healthy US-China relationship. We want to see United States to treat other nations honestly and fairly. It seems this great democratic country has never leant how to do that.
The cases you described may or may not be true, but I have never seen or heard when I was there, so I have no comments. Certainly, you are free to dig, I'll fight those who prevent you from doing it. LOL.
When you use "dare", you must have experienced some kind of threat? So what is it? Did you or anyone, living outside of china, ever get threatened by chinese government? In the worst case senario, you are not allowed to enter china. Isn't it? Everybody knows that the safest thing to do, in this world, is to call those chinese communists names. You'll never get hurt, won't you? Note that this might not be true if you did it to the old Soviet Union.
On the other hand, isn't that you who threatened Sucker " ... in the future, you are going to find youreself ..." (may no be exactly, but something like that) if he keeps doing ...? Where are those "FBI", "CIA" coming from? Now, you are talking out of your a$$, pretending to be a victim of chinese communism. You are nothing compared to Sucker, who really needs courage to say what he wants to say.
How dare you to post anything negative about The PRC. They are the most peace-loving people one can wish for. Their government is made up of staunch defenders of democratic values and principles. The article you posted must be some kind of fake. China would never ever do anything like that.
You know what will happen to you now. Sucker will call you names and he will tell you that your mother was a whore. But hey, you have seen his posts here. He and his deciples are going to PROVE to you that your knowledge of Chinese history is false and that you are nothing more but an enemy of the peace-loving government.
