INTEL IS WAY UNDERVALUED WITH POTENTIAL TO STEAL TABLET AND SMARTPHONE MARKET SHARE

Intel's Bay trail is about to be released with leaked benchmarks that show it beats snapdragon 800 and tegra 4 in both performance and battery life. Intel is reported to be very aggressively in price too.

Next year, Intel will release merrifield with LTE support as will as Broadwell Core products which will have TDP of under 4W.

    2013: year of the tablet

    • The biggest problem for Intel is that more and more computing devices use very inexpensive CPUs. Even if Bay Trail is a success (most likely isn't the one that makes a big difference), Intel is now selling a $40 part instead of a $100 or $200 part as consumers put off upgrading their PCs or laptops.

As it stands, Bay Trail is likely to compete against the most power hungry of the ARM chips, but those are roughly shoehorned into low volume devices. It doesn't go against the bulwark of devices where ARM really excels, so this generation of Silvermont is unlikely to change Intel's financial future.

However, the Silvermont/Bay Trail presentations do help educate that quad core on ARM is probably not all that compelling in real world situations, especially combined with constraints of software and power.
