      Thank you VIA...

      Good Luck everyone

    • I got some TSM at high 20s few weeks ago.

Hehehe...I bought at lower price than you do. (32

Hey, $ money from VIA will include in IDTI's earnings
      this week.
I bet the number is between 0.15 and
      0.19 per share
whisper number is "0.14" (these guy
are nuts. the whisper number is low for this fast
      growing company)

      Good luck to you!

    • No thanks. There is too much to lose and not much
to gain. I'll wait until after they post the next

Be sure you understand the business of TSM. I saw
some postings quoting the stock price of chip
producers will go to some very high value soon as the
retail price of DRAM went up. In reality, most of these
companies signed contracts one year ago, and their price is
locked. TSM is not in retail business.

    • This stock is the prime player - I too like AMAT
and ain't bad to jump on that if you can afford the
price, but to tell you the truth, TSM ain't hurting -
strongest company in semi-conductor sector to come back and
be in full production - I wanna be there in that
number - buying back into this one is a swell idea! A
plus, is you don't have the damned US volatility!!!
Sorry, I'm as American as pumpkin pie, but the
Taiwainese people are a strong bunch - this one ain't to be
ignored - I'm back in and I believe that Taiwan will do
better than ever - my thoughts and prayers have been
with them. Strong people and a good business ethic too
boot! I'm back in this baby and it will probably
      outperform my American semi-conductor stocks!!!

    • I made the statement that TSM may lose its profit
of this quarter which is based on my own
calculation. I assumed 3 weeks delay on a $1.8B factory. The
statement was to counter several previous posts suggesting
      TSM suffered only $5M lose.

      I am not familiar
with TSM design, but with MU, the entire building is
suspended to protect against earthquake. However, even with
90% damping, the factory still experienced a 6+
shake. I do not believe it is physically possible for a
$B factory to only suffer $5M damage.

already announced plan to upgrade the factory to 0.1
micron. This may be a good chance for them to do so. The
big winner of the quake, if the only winner, is AMAT.
I switched my investment to AMAT for the near
future, and will switch back to TSM next year after the
      dust is settled, literally speaking.

Broadcom statement came from United Times. Read the news
yourself as my translation may not be the best.

    • Mc Mem,
You say that bastion of journalism,
the United Times claims Broadcom cancelled their
contract with TSM? Did they mention the value? Was it
merely a cancellation of a P.O.? Makes good ink but as
far as the accuracy of the report goes it may be
meaningless. Broadcom uses a number of foundries including
TSM, UMC and CSM. With Taiwan still sweeping up it
would be logical for Broadcom to cancel few orders on
Taiwan and place them on CSM in Singapore. As far as
canceling a "Contract" that seems possibly a little

Semiconductor Sales Up 22 Pct In August

      SAN JOSE, Calif.
(Reuters) - Worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled
$11.96 billion in August, up 22 percent from August
      1998, led by gains
in Japan and other parts of Asia,
      the Semiconductor Industry Association said

Chip sales in Japan were up 32 percent from a year
earlier, while Asia-Pacific sales rose 30 percent, the
      trade group said.

      In North and South America,
sales increased by 18 percent and European sales were
      up 10 percent.

      ``As we enter the fourth
quarter, we are witnessing our first double-digit annual
growth since 1995. In addition to personal computers,
      the semiconductor market
      recovery is being driven
by communications products, the pervasiveness of the
Internet and the E-commerce explosion, George Scalise,
      president of the association, said
      in a statement.

    • "Expect all profit from TSM vaporizes" sounds
a very explicit statment (you are saying quarter

      earning=0, or even worse, FY1999 earning=0). Yet,
nothing explicit to support the statement.
      Was that a
figure of speech or do you have some #s?

Broadcom news could be very important. Yet we
have a confirmation of the cancellation, the
of cancellation, and nature of cancellation.
know BRCM outsources to TSM, but personally am
aware how big of a client BRCM is to TSM; can you

elaborate a bit on these issues? thanks

    • Speaking of AMD...does anyone know if AMD is
going to be impacted by Taiwan's earthquake? HP was in
      the news today
      regarding a possible short term
      supply chain problem due the
      earthquake. I know Intel
is going to be impacted. I just
      wonder how much
of an impact AMD is going to have in the

    • sorry I left you TSM - thought you were hurt bad,
but actually it was the American chips that took the
dive, not TSM! lOTS OF ANALYST BULL CRAP in my honest
opinion! Are we back in full production now?? Please
