Yea, the industry has such formidable barriers to entry. It's not like just about anyone with a tranche of risk capital can buy some ships, hire a management company, put the phone number of several brokers on speed dial and have access to the same markets (purchase, sale & charter) as DSX.
It is not easy to find couple hundred millions in venture capital to invest in industry with very low ROI at the moment. One can even expect that new guys without experience and connections could do even worse than break-even in this environment.
Please note that buying a ship is not simple; it is likely much more complicated than buying a car (more common thing for laymen). Imagine that you decide to buy a car, especially second-hand car, without any experience in this business. It is quite possible that results won’t be impressive.
