    Consequences of Sonyizing

Intent is not going to cut it, you see the intent of the p2p software wasn't to steal anything.

Sony is going to reap a whirlwind of their own making.

Thanks, but there's no need. Numerous computer security experts such as Mark Russinovich have already done that for us and adeptly reported the results of their research. Some of them went the extra mile and, in addition to examing the code itself, observed the effects of the malware on computer systems on which it was installed. They discovered all sorts of interesting things, such as the malware reporting the computer IP address and CD identifying codes to Sony whenever the computer was used to play music. Imagine that!

Can you show me where in Sony's EULA there is any disclosure at all about the malware tracking users' music listening habits and reporting that information along with identifying information to Sony? Unless I'm mistaken, Sony is STILL denying that the malware does this, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

You don't call this spyware? How exactly do the people on your planet define software, since you apparently don't come from Earth?

      • You ar assuming several things that make no difference.

Crime number 1: Illegal distribution of another's property.

Crime number 2 : Theft of services.

In fact crime number 1 was actually done for at least two different peoples code.

It makes nu difference if the rootkit was or was not loaded. Sony broke at least two laws several million times.

Does that make it chrystal clear for you.

Load or not (bad metaphor), Sony Music broke several criminal laws in the US. Work that one out.

Oh, and I'm not a lawyer ... but several have filed suit. Maybe they think they have a case?
