N64 technology aimed at technology in the past (cartridge)
PS3 technology aimed at technology way to far in the future (1080P HDTV set)
Both will have similar fates.
Conservatively, it will be at least 3 to 5 years before 1080P sets are common place in this country....and much longer in other places of the world.
Less than 10% of the population (in the US) even have a 1080i/720P set. And to take advantage of anything higher than standard DVD picture quaility from the DVD player (movies), you need a HDMI port...to which probably only 10% of the 10% of HDTV owners even have !!!!
Yet, Sony has decided to take MASSIVE losses and instituted huge delays on the PS3 console to make it take advantage of 1080P, which as stated above, will take many years to be common place. This is insanity beyond anything I can comprehend from a company as large and as successful as Sony.
This is funny shit. PS3 is too advanced??? Kind of defeats the purpose to develop a "next gen" game system for old tech, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a hater. PS2 not advanced enough, PS3 too advanced. LOL. You don't need a HDTV to play Lincoln Logs either.
Spend millions making a next gen gaming system that isn't scalable and will be obsolete in 5 years, yeah they should of done that instead genius. What a MASSIVE mistake. LOL. 63% of US homes will have HDTVs by 2010 and Sony will have a piece of that too.
PS3 is not too advanced for the .002% of the people that can take advantage of it...1080P, HDMI 1.3, ETC.....but IT IS TOO ADVANCED FOR THE PEOPLE SHELLING OUT 500+ FOR A SYSTEM THAT THEY CANNOT TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF !!!
no developer has gotten a *real* game to run at 1080p yet. they have a few demos but that's it and that is probably all they will ever have. most developers are chucking the 1080p and going for 720p since that's what most people have. somebody called 1080p "incremental improvement at astronomical cost"
