One or Two Points Here on Impeachment

    Pepaw writes:

"Impeached by the Repellican majority. Charges were not upheld by the Senate. Not convenient, just fact."

Your "fact", Pepaw, is a bit in error. The senate did not reverse the impeachment (aka the charges put forth), but merely ruled that our president should not be removed from office (aka convicted) because of the facts listed in the articles of impeachment. Now the cases where our sitting presidents have bent the law, broken the law, etc, are most likely numerous. I am sure Michael Beschloss, or any other presidential historian could name them till the cows come home. But when such necessary steps outside the boundary of the law are judged to be in the best interest of the country, they are traditionally overlooked. My own opinion is that the senate, in the impeachment of Bill Clinton issue, made the decision that more harm would be done to the country by throwing Bill Clinton out of office than would be done by letting him serve out his term. Of course, a cynic might argue that putting vice president Gore in office would not serve the best interests of the republican party in the next election. Could be many reasons why Bill Clinton got away with his crimes which had nothing to do with actions taken in the best interests of the country.

    • Newt went on to marry his little lover after his wife was served papers in the hospital, Burton fathered his lovers child, Livingston the new speaker had affairs with 6 women, he had to quit! I don't know how many times i've heard Barr say abortion is murder. Isn't it strange how these guys overlook the facts? Maybe some of them have behaved in the same manner!! Have a nice Christmas, Lee

Warbucks, the Senate does not have the option to reverse. Only to remove from office by a 2/3 vote. They didn't even get a majority.

The impeachment is the "indictment" and the Senate is the Jury!! Jury said no.

      Not my opinion, just facts!!!

Nopw, this whole mess was to win an election in 2000. Without this farce, Bush would have lost by 2 to one. It worked. People voted against Clinton. And clinton wasn't even running. Then it took the Supreme court to declare Bush President.

that impeachment process hurt this country beyond repair.

      • PEEPs, you're right when you say:

"The impeachment is the "indictment" and the Senate is the Jury!! Jury said no."

He was "indicted", therefore he was impeached. Just like you said.

Interesting the only two impeached presidents Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were both democrats.

Serious crimes are not requirements for impeachment. One of the Articles of impeachment against Andrew Johnson was yelling at Congress.

"...with a loud voice certain intemperate, inflammatory, and scandalous harangues, and therein utter loud threats and bitter menaces, as well against Congress...Which said utterances, declarations, threats and harangues, highly censurable in any, are peculiarly indecent and unbecoming in the Chief Magistrate of the United States, by means whereof the said Andrew Johnson has brought the high office of the President of the United States into contempt, ridicule and disgrace, to the great scandal of all good citizens, whereby said Andrew Johnson, President of the United States, did commit, and was then and there guilty of a high misdemeanor in office."

That's your view of the damages. Everyone else has moved on, long ago.

If you are really that hung up on Clinton, you could always order Clinton blowup dolls.
(I think Kremers has 7, one for each day)

        Damn, enough already.
