That could topple the republicans.
allowing the dubai arab firm to take over the six ports is wrong wrong wrong.
homeland security comes before concern over possible "insults" to foreign companies and governments.
The republican governor of NY is against it, the senate majority leader is against it, but Bush does have support from the tough on terror Jimmy Carter.
Carter said, "I don't think there's any particular threat to our security." Now I feel safe.
"Why would the UAE allow it to happen and what would be their gain." "They didn't get their wealthy by being stupid."
There is no threat to their wealth.
Why? They are Muslims and just like Christians they believe their religion is the right religion. The only difference is their religion teaches them that Allah approves of killing infidels to spread their religion.
Polls taken within the US of Muslim citizens showed that 70% said if they learned of a terrorist attack against the US they would not report it.
The bottom line is that it is not worth the risk allowing this transaction to take place. If it proves to be a bad decision it could be at the price of literally millions of American citizens.

A majority were enrolled in US Flight schools for extended periods of time and numerous front companies for funding Al Quaeda have been id'd in the US. What's the difference besides an assertion that the UAE govt was involved and the US govt was not?
Page 216: "On June 20, Hanjour returned home to Saudi Arabia. He obtained a U.S. student visa on September 25 and told his family he was returning to his job in the UAE. Hanjour did go to the UAE, but to meet facilitator Ali Abdul
Page 224: "The Hamburg operatives paid for their flight training primarily with funds wired from Dubai by KSMs nephew,Ali Abdul Aziz Ali. Between June 29 and September 17, 2000,Ali sent Shehhi and Atta a total of $114,500 in five transfers ranging from $5,000 to $70,000."
what I find strange is that no US companies have stepped up to the plate to acquire ownership of these ports. Maybe it's a more attractive deal for foreigners in terms of profits related to foreign currency markets and trade balance...
I can't say if the sale makes economic sense or not but I doubt the UAE will risk the wealth and economic status they've attained by allowing terrorist plots to unfold via the ports. They are as westernized and capitalistic as any mideast country could hope to be.
IF they are to be trusted then their ownership could actually be a valuable tool AGAINST terrorisism as they could apply intelligence more effectively in that area.
"The security is not going to change ---it will be the same as it was when the English firm operated the port----the US does the security and always has and always will."
The one big difference is that Al Qaeda will be running the port.
Can you imagine at the height of the Cold War if Kennedy announced we would let our ports be run by the Soviet Union?
