Texas Instruments was a well respected and reputable company during the 1970-80's. I think TI should buy out AMD as they are pretty much bankrupt. Great American company with a lot of great technology and patents.
Through out the years TI's buying companies has been mostly a disaster for shareholders and TI themselves. Don't know by what means TI BOD uses to evaluate a buyout but it more than often fails to bear fruit.
Nope, if they bought AMD, I don't believe that it'd work. They tried the x86 back in the '90's and it wasn't, as I recall, a smash hit. They are down to, nearly, just analog, with a smattering of logic, a few processors, DLP, and calculators. Anything I missed? However, after this week's big RIF, they will have some pretty good profit at next upturn. They seem to always find a way to be ready for the next upturn. I see this action as an omen for a strong 2013. When semiconductor comapnies, in my experience, lay off, it's a lagging indicator of the downturn, and a leading indicator of the upturn.
