Oh, the conspiracy theories. MENT is a gold mine for any acquirer. If CDNS/SNPS/PMTC acquires MENT they get so much synergy in sales and marketing that their SG&A expenses will be cut into half, if not more. Icahn know this very well. He can buy MENT and sell in pieces and make a s.hitload of money. The sum of all parts is definitely far more than the whole in MENT's case.
IMO, a case can be easily made for a $18-$22 pps. Icahn can/will bump up his offer by another $1 is MENT agrees to his terms. I think MENT will ask for more. It is premature to sell while this is still up in the air. Given there is so much cheap money floating around financing any such deal won't be difficult. GS advisors working with MENT can put together deal with CDNS or SNPS and get better value for the shareholders.
No conspiracy theory here Stockmeister. I think your points are valid and make a lot of sense. My concern is that perhaps the management is not operating with the best interest of the company/shareholders in mind but rather for their own self serving agenda as Carl himself seems to imply. Anyway time will tell. I am out but I sincerely wish you (and all longs) all the best.
