    Guesses on earnings?

Hey all, was wondering what you all thought about CLF's earnings in February. They've missed the last two quarters, although it doesn't look like it affected the stock price much at all. I'm worried about rate hikes elsewhere, but I'm guessing with 10% pullback in the stock, we can (perhaps) safely assume that any news out of China at this point is priced in, no? At least, nothing I've read indicates that IO prices will not significantly appreciate over the course of the year.

I'm quite the novice investor, so I apologize if these questions are a little simple/silly.

    • Very tough to come up with a quarterly estimate. Too many variable including complex contracts and "True Up payments".

For yearly earnings I long ago posted $8 for 2010 and $12 for 2011. Right now I feel more comfortable with my 2011 prediction but I think we will beat $7.22 for the year just ended.

It is always price and tonnage. Both improved in the fourth quarter. For Iron Ore and for Met Coal.
CLF's NA IO tonnage will break a record for 4th qtr mark my post.

For others views, look back at postings of takinout... runs the numbers in a serious way to try to crunch them accurately, mostly I watch trends.

Look at Sblow.. tokyo a long term CLF poster a good long term perspective.

Octebgon, Finland, others who have been with CLF for a time.

Look at the IO price charts we link to look at a chart of CLF. Are you ready for that potential volatility? We are because both charts keep climbing from left to right upward quite dramatically.
