Hitachi Metals has developed a giant magneto-resistive (GMR) magnetic sensor for use in magnetic rotary encoders and linear encoders, responding to the trend toward thin pitches. The Company also has a lineup of surface-mounted GMR sensors appropriate for the move toward miniaturization.
Hitachi Metals is developing sensors using GMR devices made of new materials. The GMR sensor has three times the output of Hitachi Metals' AMR sensors.
The GMR Sensor operates within a range of -40C ~ 120C.
NOTE: Hitachi Metals GMR Sensors are found under Automotive Components and Materials at the link below.
I think that is not NVEC stuff. Hitachi do not have PROBIBUS interface compatible GMR sensors that are required by SICK sensors & IFM Efector. So I can say that SICK & IFM are using NVEC sensors and making their own modules from them.
NVE never mentioned that Hitachi is license.
I think they inherited this technology from IBM after they paid $2 billion for IBM hard drive business.
