NVEC has never had to preannounce because it's never failed to meet expectations. If the company was going to have a disappointing quarter, it would have preannounced. If you're short, I hope you cover soon for your sake.
Ah, nvec missed earning in the third quarter only six months ago, remember? The earnings miss was do to one of the analyst over estimating government grant money, but thats a thing of the past thank goodness.
I can't remember what the analyst was looking for, but the December 2006 quarter showed less of a seasonal drop than in prior years - nonetheless we still got crushed. If the analyst attributed it to government R&D he didn't understand the company.
There were a couple nasty quarters in the past. December 2004 showed a 23% sequntial drop in product sales revenues (seasonal effect), and the June 2004 quarter showed a 12% sequential drop (not a seasonal effect).
The cause of these was at least partially due to the non-repeat of the St. Jude initial "stocking" order, which was fulfilled during calendar 2003, but that explanation didn't seem to make a difference.
