By Sara Sjolin
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The U.K. Treasury on Monday named Mark Carney as the new governor of the Bank of England from July 1, 2013, when the current boss Mervyn King steps down from the job. Carney is currently governor of the Bank of Canada along with serving as chairman of the Financial Stability Board. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne welcomed the appointment and said that "Carney has done a brilliant job for the Canadian economy as its central bank governor, avoiding big bailouts and securing growth." The announcement came as a surprise to market spectators, with Paul Tucker, the deputy governor, lined up as the favorite for the position, according to the Guardian.
I saw Chrystia Freeland at Politics and Prose. She is a brilliant Canadian who has studied all parts of the economy and has a great book on Plutocrats. She reminded us that the Canadians were one of the few economies Not hurt by the Economic Meltdown because of good bank regulation.
