The Left offers a false alternative freedom (unearned entitlements) by compliance with government mandates. That's not freedom that's indentured service. When the government fails which it always has (throughout history) under those principles the people are totally unprepared to fend for themselves.
Ah, the great Republican Party radical right wing ....... what they say and what they do are always in conflict:
They say : personal freedom ........ They do: Provide freedom only if you agree to their values. They have no problem with ensureing a Woman is restricted in their freedom of choice, They have no problem with ensureing those Mexican AMERICANS lose their freedom by having to prove that they are hear on a legl basis at the whim of any cop.
The say: We are aginst unearned entitlements They Do: Continue to increase UNEARNED entitlements to the Corp. and the Rich
They Say: They support personal Rights
They Do: Everything they can to eliminate a persons right to organize
They Say: They love America They do: If they lose an election they want to seperate from the USA or leave the country. They also cry gloom and doom.
In addition they can only say no in the House of Rep. and ensure any progress is blocked. They Actually want AMERICA TO FAIL as they wave the falg and wear their flag pins.
What they support on an ongoing basis is WAR, THE RICH, CORP. WELFARE, GREED, OLD WHITE MEN WHO ARE BIGIOTS, NO CONTROL ON CORP"S, AMERICAN CORP.'S THAT ELIMINATE AMERICAN JOBS TO MOVE TO CHINA, BIG OIL EXPORTING AMERICAN OIL TO CHINA, ELIMINATION OF THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN, AND TOTAL ELIMINATION OF THE MIDDLE CLASS.
AND THEY WONDER WHY THEY LOST THE VOTES OF WOMEN, JEWISH PEOPLE, YOUNG PEOPLE, LATINO AMERICANS, ETC. THAT ENSURED THEY WERE DEFEATED BY A MAJORITY OF THE VOTE.
You mean like "arbeit macht Frei " Of course freedom for women to get abortions and not having to have a camera shoved up their butt and gays the right to marry and of course free markets .I'll go for all three
The right wing offers a delusional take on reality. They offer failure for losers, hatred for racists, stupidity for the uninformed, no hope for the disenfranchised, a closed mind for those who share knowledge, and great losses at the polls.
That post subject reminds me of what the Nazis had placed over the entrance gates to Auschwitz and other concentration camps...The words 'ARBEIT MACHT FREI'. If you don't know the meaning, just ask your fellow radical Republican Nazi - and there's plenty on this board - becuase they will surely know and love that phrase.
Civilization is not based on rugged individualism and survival of the fittest. If we were to live in a mad max anarchy or return to the age of cave men your message might have some relevance. In modern society many people not suitable for basic survival have useful and productive positions.
How we take care of our weak or those in need is the challenge of civilization. The answers are the structures of our civilization. Might makes right is not the principal on which civilized society flourishes. How we take care of those in need defines our humanity and our charity. Usually the recognition that an unexpected change of circumstances could make any one of us one of the needy leads to empathy rather than hostility.
Unearned entitlements? Surely you don't mean social security, pensions or medicare. How much do you think the real dole programs like food stamps, medicaid and aid to dependent children really cost you from your tax dollar? Perhaps it is FEMA you object to. They are not the drivers of government deficit.
How we get our less productive members in to meaningful productivity has always been the question for society and government. As our life span has increased how do we provide work for these healthy seniors or care for those that are not? In an age of mechanization how do we provide labor for the less skilled? How do we provide the young with the education they will need in a fast changing technical economy? How do we provide dignity for a manual labor force if we do not adequately reward it financially? How do you increase the education of society if not all can afford to go to school and do? How do you provide upward mobility if the vast majority of wealth is held by a elite few who are determined to maintain their position of superiority?
Our nation is a community and the structure of government is nothing more than a reflection of our ideals and morality. Providing for the needy through government is nothing more than an extension of activities that have been with us since we first arrived on this continent. Where I grew up in farm country it was often common for neighbors to come plow a field for someone in the community who had become incapacitated for some reason or to bring food to a family after a funeral. These government programs you complain about are nothing but an institutionalization of those values that most of us here grew up with.
You know - Hgh - if you think you are so much better than the person that owns the company - I think it would be IDEAL for you to just BUY the dang company - an be 1 of the masters - an put you dang MONEY were you mouth is - " instead of crying about it " .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Civilization is not based on rugged individualism and survival of the fittest. If we are to live in anarchy or go back to a being cave men your message would have some relevance. In modern society people specialize and often have talents that would be useless in your scenario of government collapse but are necessary for civilization.
One of the attributes of civilization is that the weak are cared for and not left to die in the streets. How we do this as a society is a test of our humanity and an indication of charity. Recognition that a change of circumstance might place any one of us in that state of need usually provokes empathy rather than hostility.
Your assumption that vast segments of society choose to be on the dole is not shared by most and the basis for disagreement. How we get those who are dependent back in to productive employment is the question all societies struggle with. As we now have longer life spans how do we incorporate the aged more productively in the work force? As manual labor is replaced by mechanization how do we provide meaningful labor for the less skilled? How do you provide dignity to those who do manual labor if you do not financially reward them adequately? How do you improve the education of society if some elements of society can not afford to go to school? How do you maintain the opportunity for advancement when most material wealth is held in the hands of a few determined to maintain their position of superiority?
Just what are you considering unearned entitlements? Certainly not social security and medicare. When you look at the real dole programs like food stamps, medicaid or aid to dependent children how big of a burden do you really think those expenses are to our overall spending? Perhaps it is FEMA you feel is wasting your tax dollar. Most of these programs are nothing more than the community coming together to help a member during a time of need. Much like in the farming communities I grew up in coming over to plow a neighbors land when the family was incapacitated for some reason or bringing food over to feed a family after a funeral. These are principles of our society brought forward to the foundation of our institutions and fully in agreement with the ideal and morality most of us grew up with.
They are both not keeping up with demand. So not enough was pay in or too much is being paid out and that portion is unearned. But there are many unpaid for government sponsored programs that don't returned the assumed value. I know the democrats always say well that billion or million is not going to make a difference but when you couple thousands of those programs together they certainly do make a difference. I have to live on a budget and I know it is all those little unaccounted for expenses here and there that kill you. Just look at the massive expanding debt of the USA for gawd sake! Taxing the rich is a campaign speech not a solution!
