At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler - a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh - had this to say about "The Fall of the Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance,
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy,
From apathy to dependence,
From dependence back into bondage."
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! dumpo once again shows off how stupid he is. Hey, dumpo, what's it like knowing you've been duped into passing on another cut and paste job designed just for fools like you to step in? Got any more chain letter scams to pass on? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
You fell for a conservative chain email hoax. The hoax is listed on both Wikipedia and Snopes. The progression sequence quote you ended your post with is not from Tyler but was manufactured out of thin air to support the false claim that the government should not serve the needs of the middle class with social security and other benefits because, somehow it leads to corruption. And it distracts from the real leaches on government by wealthy individuals and influential corporations who buy candidates with their political donations.
By posting this hoax you have shown that you are merely a mindless parrot who doesn't bother to check your sources. That is what the Tea Party is all about, echoing conservative hoaxes. Please try to be honest the next time.
where in the constitution does it say the government is there to serve the middle class what makes you think they will spend your money better than you will so that line you made is pulled out of thin air
