General Cable Corp. Message Board

Bad Management ... Fact or Fiction!?

Obviously we have some X-employees on this board
who believe that BCC is poorly managed, with
particular attention to the CEO. The stock price suggest
that they are right ... but I would like to hear
specific information to see if these comments are just
sour grapes from disgruntled ex-employees or if
management really is all that bad.

    For example,
someone earlier wrote that the CEO showed off his newly
acquired motorcycle that he was housing in the BICC
warehouse. I can see where this would "piss off" the rank
and file who make a small percentage of what the CEO
makes. Who wants someone to flaunt their wealth. But
this is a small incident, ... so what, or is this
representative of how they treat their employees. What about
employee turnover? Can they keep key personel. What about
the other key management other than the CEO. Are they
competent? Who is and who is not? and give examples. I read
in earlier post that the international department
was run by two individuals who were actually married
to each other ... is this really true? Is there
    nepotism throughout the organization?
    What about the
loan convenents on the billion dollar loan? Are they
still intact? Or is the other shoe about to
    fall?
What about the board of directors ... they are
responsible for the management ... are they hands on or are
    they cronies of the CEO.
    Any real insight into
    these issues would be appreciated.

    • To answer your question..yes they do fiber. You
can check their website for more information,
although most of the posters here have answered your
      question also.
I am not so much 'down' on the
company....just a realist....take some time and read back on some
of these boards, and hear what the people have to
say. Although some of it may be personally and
emotionally motivated, most of it is just the facts. The
management struture is a mess, to say the least, you will
find that even 'outsiders' generally feel this
      way.
Purchasing stock is a decision you must make based on your
own research and personal feelings. Good Luck

    • Please don't think I am critial.I am an owner of
Poci & Fbce both in the fibre optic business. Is BGC in
the fibre opics business or just the cable. You sound

    • The Snoppington philosophy of management has
taken the country by storm. The idea, fellow
tricksters, is to increase the ratio of executive to worker
compensation from its current 450 to 1 to 999 to 1. In twenty
years, we have moved it from 40 to 1 to its current 450
to 1. In the next five years, we will move it to 999
to 1. Workers, my fellow, tricksters, are the fuel
to enrich management and a few key investors with
      "inner sanctum" information.

    • As you could tell by my last post....I feel that
it is obvious that even if the management does read
these boards, they are only a sounding board, but will
not necessarily effect change. The fact of the matter
is that this is about money, not people. You only
have to read the boards to see that.
      The management
does not deserve your investment, the employees do. It
is they who are undervalued. Unfortunately they do
not reap the benefits or rewards of your
      investment.
This is not advise on your investment decisions, only
      an opinion.
Although I do believe that there are
      better choices. Good luck.

    • I'm a small investor, new to BGC. I'm not an
employee or ex-employee nor am I related to BGC in any
other fashion other than I have made a small purchase
of shares to what otherwise looks like an
      undervalued stock.

I generally don't let the message
boards influence my investment decisions, but I have not
seen a message board more consistently and uniformly
in agreement as to poor management performance of a
      company.

If only a portion of the accusations against
management posted on this board are true, all us investors
are in trouble until it changes.

      As an
investor, I would like to know that I do have a good
management team in place looking out for the value of my
      investment in them.

If management reads this board, I
would certainly say they could dismiss it, but I would
also then say they would be blind to the coherency of
      negative thought.

Management has some IR to do at
      the very least.

    • Some people who need a career change get it,
there are some who are let go for more political
reasons. Politics seems to rule the layoffs more that
      cutting dead weight.

Not all changes are for the
      best.

As for the message boards, They continue to try and
block any access to the boards through various means.
This has also included basic warnings about visiting
the boards. And not limited to Various methods of
      blocking electronically through their I.S.

      You can
bet that the Higher Up's read these daily, they also
track who is accessing them from inside the company.
Apparently some time back the personal Negative comments got
so rampant the CEO wanted to know if they were
coming from inside. So they implemented ways of tracking
      visits from internal PCs.

      As always more to
      come as it becomes available.

    • Listen intently for ANY news coming out of the BICC Camp. Over the next few days more will be made evident.

    • I am terribly sorry. I meant to post this on our
