Y'all know I don't normally send out bulk messages like this, but this is something that is VERY important to me, and, forgive me for saying, should be very important to you as well.
Some might call me a fear-mongerer for making comparisons bewteen the maneuverings of Hitler during the mid-30's, and the modern day maneuverings of our current government, but I think the situations speak for themselves. You've all heard that old saw about those folks that don't learn about history being doomed to repeat it, so we don't need to beat that dead horse. I, for one, was shocked to learn just how similar these two actions really are.
You can make up your own mind after reading about it:
On 28FEB1935, German Chancellor Adolph Hiter pressured then-President Hindenberg into signing a decree "for the Protection of the people and the State" in response to the arson of the Reichstag the day before. The Emergency Decree stated: "Restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press; on the rights of assembly and association; and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic and telephonic communications and warrants for house searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed."
I trust that I don't need to spell out all the correlations between Hitler's decree and the USA PATRIOT Act, but both were knee-jerk, magnanimously named reactions to terrorism that were pushed through without thought to their future ramifications.
As your constituent I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the American public is watching this bill more closely than most, and I, for one, will be basing my future voting decisions STRONGLY upon the voting record regarding this Act.
