Yep, it tracks an index. The managers are not inept if they match an ill performing index. RE might be reverting to the mean. Look at the good run it had. It is disheartening to see this fund/etf drop every day. Sooner or later it will be time to buy or rebalance into it. REITs are supposed to be not very correlated to other stocks. Some consider them an indepenent asset class to always hold for diversification. Best
My guess is that REITs in general have been dragged down by the weak housing market. I think that commercial REITS have also paid the price even though they are quit different from residential housing real estate related REITS. This makes no common sense and I think that the market is guilty of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It's a shame. I am worried that this downward trend will continue until we see some sort of bounce in the housing market. I am considering getting out of REITS until the housing market shows some life again. Any thoughts?
