ANGI should let reviews be accessed without payment, registration
While okay to have only paid members post reviews (brings transparency to the system, just like facebook, which doesn't let you use fake or anon names), they are killing off serious traffic by requiring registration and payment to even read the reviews.
I think the search engine traffic itself will be so big, they could compete better with Yelp.
They dont have anything to lose because it is not like the payers feel they are some exclusive club or anything (Angi thinks this way, strangely)..but they will garner loads of traffic. Let them come and browse for free..then if they want they can become members to get special offers, etc. instead of publicizing that they charge for viewing the reviews, which sounds really stupid.
members are paying because they like the quality of the reviews and angi is a more transparent, open and honest interface than yelp because of real identitites. They are not paying to read the reviews or to become a part of some stupid exclusive club.
Angi and W have it all wrong there. They know something is working, people are paying-but they shouldnt tout it as a pay site to read reviews, which it is not..reviews are everywhere on Yelp, google, etc...
often time execs have no clue why their companies are doing well, and also why they are not doing well, obviously.
Your statements are contradictory:
- members are paying because they like the quality of the reviews
- They are not paying to read the reviews
They might figure out the business model. But in the meantime, they can continue to sell shares and enrich themselves while they dabble with the fee structures and hope that they do not run out of money.
they are not paying to write the reviews.
they are paying to read quality reviews. it is small fee anyway. just lets people at ANGI do the sifting of what are reliable and what are unreliable reviews, that's all.
if angi and w could just stop saying anything at all, open the site to search engines, the traffic and stock will go through the roof. they are pretty clueless about why the site works, people pay, and are happy overall-it happens all the time in life.
