I spent a good amount of time last night reading "Our fair share" which was apparently commissioned by the Alberta government. It was essentially a Marxist treaty that views the government of Alberta owning the resource and the oil companies as "developers." My image of Alberta was kind of a northern wild west run by pure free market capitalists. Certainly not the case. Hard to estimate the impact of their proposals since they are complex and tax rates/royalties differ by age of well (gas) and other arcane overthought rules. Not sure how seriously the government and the people will take these recommendations, but if the "Our Fair Share" group succeeds, we might as well go to Venezuela and deal with the more rational and business friendly Chavez.
