High growth projections, a young population and a low P/E make Turkey a definite “buy.” Turkey-specific investment opportunities are few and far between. I like the Turkey ETF, iShares MSCI Turkey Index Fund (NYSE:TUR). HSBC is also likely to launch a Turkey EFT before the end of 2010 –
the HSBC MSCI Turkey EFT (LSE:HTRY) – which will have an attractively low total expense ratio (TER) of just 0.6% that’s below the iShares equivalent.
The article focuses on the long term which is clearly good, but the short term is more problematic: inflation rose this month to 7.2% (Turkish govt data). Lira is down vs US dollar so oil import costs are way up. There is concern about current account deficit by Moody and others. And uncertainty about next week's election is an overhang.
All that being said the short term technicals could be signaling a pop up to 18.
