Everytime we get a move up, it is followed by a selloff. Doesn't seem to matter if the dow is up or down! Very discouraging. Almost sold 1/2 my position today but noticed ex-div date is 8/30 so might as well wait until after that date. If we don't get to $89 by then I'm definitely out and on to greener pastures. MCD has been a mcdud all year. Dividend or no dividend, performance has been terrible ever since Skinner left!
give it years not days. i'm giving the new ceo a chance. i just started a position a few weeks ago and will buy more if i like whats going on around next reporting quarter. i love mcd's dividend history.
I think the major problem is the currency devaluation from Europe but also the slowing growth story in China. Wal-Mart and some others are having the same problem. Target is actually outperforming Wal-Mart now as it is only a domestic retailer. However, the global exposure is the reason MCD was #1 in the dow last year. Now I'm sure we'll hear about the drought and the price of corn when next earnings call comes around. This is when good management really makes a difference. Remember a few years ago when all the airlines were really tanking hard? There was one airline ceo (Southwest Air) who had the good judgment to hedge oil purchases to leverage against the higher costs. That's the kind of management MCD needs now! It'll be interesting to see how the next few quarters playout.
