Now what just happend to SGENX?

How BIG was the dividend? Like I said, the price dropped by about 16% last week. Did we get a 16% dividend. Do you think this had something to do with the fund being reopened to new traders? I am a bit concerned, as this fund usually outperforms when the market is down, and usually does NOT underperform at all, except in very unusual circumstances. Almost 1/3 of my retirement money is in SGENX. I know that it sounds crazy, but it was an IRA rollover from when I left my old employer, and at the time, it was not a significant amount of money, but 8 years later, it had tripled. What's your take on this?

having a 3rd of your retirement money in this fund does not look that foolish to me: it is a reliable value fund, managed by people who understand exactly that their clients give them what they have (money) and that their primary responsibility is to first not lose any of it and to make it grow as best as possible. The track record over about 25 years shows they do what they say.

Yes SGENX paid a div of about 11 or 12% on dec 13, hence the hit the NAV price took. That said, if you reinvest automaticaly the div, you should have 11 or 12% more shares in your portfolio as of dec 13. The rest is just a market fluctuation
