Anyone??? Why does KGC show a EPS of minus $2.20.....Are they losing money???

And then there is HMY and IAG showing a +EPS for 69 cents and +81 cents for each. All are around $5ish per share now. Is KGC losing this much money, with the neg EPS??? Something seems out of sync....

    • The negative EPS is due to the write down of good will relating to the Tasiast purchase. KGC has had two write downs totaling $5+Billion in the last two years. BUT remember, these write downs are NON-CASH related. KGC is like much like a coiled spring with old news surpressing the spring. Cash costs coming down, pre-feasability on tasiast coming out on monday, gold going back up, and huge discount to nav. A lot of items are aligned to un-coil this spring. in my opinion....

The price correlation is very disappointing on KGC with that of gold. Gold was $75 lower than it is now on the way up to these levels, and KGC was trading at the $5.40 level then. I think that KGC does become a "coiled spring" at some lower level, but it is very hard at this point to figure out that level. The coiling process is quite non-linear. In the low $5's it seems to be tightly coiled in the high $5's not coiled at all. Let's say it is a coiled spring that doesn't have a lot up upside energy at this point. My contention is that if we start factoring in some of the good things that might happen later. like lawsuit settlement, reduced operating costs, W Africa good news etc...then the stock gets a lot more upside to it. Right now the upside is seemingly very limited, and the downside hard to determine. Think about it. Gold almost broke $1,500 this morning, and look at where KGC was trading. The entire mining sector for that matter was not impressed. If gold pulls back next week, which technically it is likely to do, then we will really start see at what point we really get the compressed spring. I am hoping it is not a $4 handle!
