"the problem is they have more debt on the books than they have profit"GE has $400 billion in debt and only $11 billion in anual profits. Their market cap is still $205 billion.Ford has $80 billion in debt and only $6.5 billion profits. Their market cap is still $55 billion. The issue isn't debt per se, but rather how the debt is serviced and whether the debt load crimps operational capacity. As for MERC, this issue is addressed in their recent conference call. Take some time out from daytrading and give a listen.http://investor.shareholder.com/media/eventdetail.cfm?eventid=91422&CompanyID=MERC&e=1&mediaKey=1AE35D7DABC3ECD95E2779DA87354812
