And solar cost will still be 40% cheaper in 48 months and 40% cheaper in the next 48 months and 40% cheaper in the next 48 months! and eventually everyone on the planet will be plugged into the sun!:) Clean Air at last!
A two percentage growth in worldwide coal use is greater, in total electricity generated by utilities, than a 100% y/y growth in solar...because coal's installed base is huge, while solar is still has a very small global footprint. If governments, especially those that are financially pressured, stop providing subsidies to alternative energies, their growth rates will slow dramatically.
Look at the USA market only one coal fired plant built in past 5 years, 150 coal plants shut down in past 5 years, ALL new power capacity in past year was RENEWABLE! now with new emission standards for coal, and a massive government land handout for wind and solar things are about to get desperate for coal miners in the USA! This is not going to end well for fossil fuels:)
Solar has little ROI. My son in law is in the business and installed it in his Berkeley, Cal. home for zero outside labor. He never puts on heat or a/c and is quite happy to have reduced his elec billy to near zero. For the more typical person, it would be a poor investment. He puts the systems in for wealthy yuppy tree huggers which abound in the Bay Area.
Sad you must still believe in Santa Claus if you think this coal industry is going to be around in 4 years:) this POS was at 84$ 5 years ago, 14$ today and dropping like a stone, this just basic math, Solar cost drop every year, it is clean, and growing at 100% y/y this growth rate is only going to accelerate as the world searches for an answer for global warming and investors rush in on the next big thing, like GS and Buffet.
