Question on Organic Compound of Shale

Most target shales have 2 to 4% total organic compound (TOC). Does anyone know what is the range of TOC percentage where a shale gas well is considered ideal? Is there some maximum TOC percentage beyond which the well is too saturated by organic compounds?

    • The ideal well is cheap and produces a lot of gas or oil for a long time no matter what the TOCs might be in the vicinity of a well.

And as far as I know nobody worries about a well having too much saturated organic compounds.

At worst, you might get polysaturated organic compounds which is extra light in quality.

And that beats the heck out of polyunsaturated inorgasmic compounds(PICs).

They're a waste of time and serve no useful purpose.
