Unfortunately, this stock has hit a multiyear low.
I am NOT a short seller, I am a long term holder
who is not selling. There are very few places to
get income today and bonds are an awful investment
for the average investor at this time. Cash is better.
I am not concerned about interest rates, I think
political pressure will constrain the fed and even
if rates rise, utilities will still pay their dividend,
I can live with the price fluctuations. I also expect
SO's dividend to be safe for a good while most
    likely .
However, one must be at least somewhat concerned
that while all utilities have fallen due to rising
rates and some prior mild over valuation, SO
has fallen to the point where it has the highest
yield of all major utilities except two very
problematical utes, FE and Entergy. The only
other ute with a higher yield was EXC which has
cut its dividend. This is new, SO has always paid
a dividend in the middle of the pack for utilities,
it has never been the top yielder because of its
perceived safety. Although all utes are down,
it is one of the few, if not only one, hitting multi
year lows. This can only be because of concerns
about the Vogtle plant. Again, I'm not saying to sell
or a dividend cut is coming in the near future but that the
relative weakness compared to similar utes at the same time
as all the Vogtle problems bears watching and is somewhat
As far as management is concerned, no one is perfect and
things happen that management can't control. However planning
and building new plants is supposed to be something this
management should be experts in and something management
is paid very well for. So that these problems weren't avoided by
either building a different type of plant or by better execution of
their plans is disappointing. Is there any accountability?
