    Autozone laughed

Well i went and interviewed at autozone today. I think it went okay for me but I came away with a feeling of almost embarassment. When i was asked who my store manager was the person interviewing me chuckled when i told him. He told me that my manager used to work for autozone but that she was a cashier when advance hired her. Within two months she was made a store manager. I was in shock. Although i must admit that explains a lot about how our store runs. I hope i get the job because now i am actually embarassed to work here. I asked another ex autozoenr that works at advance if this was true and he told me yes and that she wasnt the only one made a store manager with no management experience. who is making these decisions to make people store managers! i gotta get out of here. oh yeah, the guy that used to work at autozone told me he got fired for stealing drinks and snacks. who hired him!

    • You seem to understand the auto parts business. I have a question for you. How can a website like sell parts so much cheaper than parts stores and other websites?

    • Ms. Dixie..You must really understand
what it takes to run a parts store and what it takes to stay in the game. Over the last ten years the bigger fish have been on a rampage
and eating up all of the other fish in the pond. Hang in if you can..These bloated fish will pop sooner or later and the real winner
will be the small guy who gave good service and comfort all along the trip. Bigger is not better. Bigger is slow to respond and honestly they
don't know their customers like you know yours..Good luck and good selling...Kid

    • newkid - I believe I posted in the wrong position. I was reading a long list of posts and was replying to bpm2K2000. Had not checked this board in a long time and I am always appalled when I read his posts. His comments are condescending to those very knowledgeable parts people in "his" stores. And I may not be a "savvy" investor but I do try to stay informed and I do ok. And I am actually a "Miss" who inherited a portfolio AND a parts store that I am considering selling. I have to pay a parts expert to run it and the margins are very small for the independents if we are to remain competitive. The insulting remark by bmp "what does that say about you, sparky?" prompted my post. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    • I too have left Advance. I was an Assistant Manager at the bottom of the pay scale. I was usually the only manager in the store as the Store Manager and Second Assistant always had excuses why they couldn't work. They closed my store and transfered me to a store with a wacko Store Manager. My DM was never available by phone or email. I'm done! I got a new job using my BSEE degree making much more money. I have an interview at AutoZone for a part time position.

      • There was a time when AAP & AZO were operationally direct opposites. From procedures to philosophy they were like east & west. Today they are much more similar. Many reasons on both sides but the outstanding one unfortunatly is that AAP has become 90 % retail & 10 % automotive. Not to say this is good or bad from an investor point but things have sure changed in ten years. I'd say more but I'm going out to buy a pickle.

    • Store manager meeting today. Mine came back hating on the RVP and DM. Morale super low now that we have only one employee until noon in the store. Awful lonely by yourself.

      • Finishing up my first week at autozone! Wow what a difference. Our store is almost always busy. Everyone at the store stays busy. We have to work hard though. I have had more training and direction from co-workers here in one week than I had in 6 months at advance. Its only one week but i can tell you i am happy. Also, i know of 3 people from advance that walked off an came over here this week. I cannot post any more though. They told us this was a big no no. Good luck to everyone left at advance.

    • Almost every store manager was stock clerk before, there is nothing wrong with that. It depends on how did you show to your customers attitute and your sales record. If you are thinking move to autozone, you'd better get going, since it is really bad having people like you that stay in one job and thinking jump ship.
