The ANALysts Are Posting Their Views

First off, let me just say that I generally ignore most of what Wall Street has to say about a given stock or industry. These "experts", most of whom are quite young, have never had a real job or career producing something of value. It shows.

Their collective performance on yesterday's call demonstrates a childish sense of entitlement, a wanton disrespect for those who actually create something for a living, and a level of arrogance that is rooted in ignorance. Most of them can't even speak in complete sentences.

Anyway, they're part of the landscape, and must be tolerated. Needham & Co. has this to say today:

    ---snip---

Needham & Company maintains a 'Buy' on Acme Packet (NASDAQ: APKT) price target of $52.00.

Needham analyst says, "APKT is a pure-play on the powerful secular trend towards IP networks and services by carriers and enterprises. We expect its position as the leading provider of session border controllers (SBC) that enable IP-based services should enable it to see strong growth for the next several years. That said, the 3Q miss on an apparent slip of a very large order demonstrates both the opportunity the company faces, as well as potential risks of managing the timing of such large orders. While acknowledging a more challenging macro environment, which may serve to limit the type of upside to guidance investors had come to expect from Acme, we think the recent pullback in the shares (~55% off its recent highs in the after market) likely accounts for this diminished upside potential."

"Our 2011 estimates remain unchanged at $316.4MM/$1.14. We slightly tweak down our 2012 estimates to $400.4MM/$1.45 from $405MM/$1.47."

    ---snip---

    • I agree with you and that interpretation of the analysts. I will admit, I'm trapped now at 38 in this stock because I bought during the conference call when I felt there was nothing to warrant a further fall after October 4. I also think this company is in the right sector and the future continues to be bright.

With regard to the analyst childish behavior, we caught the first snipit of that on the very first caller question. The guy with the deep voice seemed a bit on a pedestal. I remember thinking to myself "get off the phone ya DB".
