Luxottica Group SpA Message Board

  • coledrpaulin coledrpaulin Feb 19, 2005 2:20 AM Flag

Things are changing fast. I have been told by my luxottica reps that they will no longer be able to call on my office one day, and then the next they can. I am not sure luxottica knows what to to do with the franchise's, We are not going to be strong held into buying there products even though they own the company until the lawyers and attorneys can look everything thing over. I have had very good relations with all of are LUX reps and know we are being forced to by product sight un-seen, that is the way we got marchon, an kenmark products, as well as the moulin products, My store does over 3 million a year an you will will not pump you crap in my stores. I will continue to see the Channel , Prada, and Versace and Vittidini rep. I buy all of there lines and now I will not be able to do that well, you guys can take your franchise and I will just change my name, and not pay royalities, or you will let my buyers see the reps they want to see.

If not I guess I better call the neon sign guy, and I will sue you for not holding up the aggreement set fourth in section 42.e on frame selction which is set to expire for my contract in 2008

    • Did you mean "and know we are being forced..." OR "and now we are being forced..."?? Your post is a little difficult to follow.

It amazes me that someone can go through years of optometry school and wind up not being able to write simple sentences that are easy to understand.

"all of are Lux reps" instead of "all of our Lux reps". "their lines" instead of "there lines" "buy products" instead of "by products".

    • It doesn't make any sense that LUX is going to makes moves that will alienate the franchise community right off. It is going to take a while for them to become comfortable with dealing with "independent businessmen"-it is alien to their corporate culture. They now have an annuity without doing anything (royalties) and looking at their announcements last week some significant
discounts on their lines. Like you, I am a long timer who has always ignored the acceptable frames line even though it is stated in the agreement. Grand Met and Cole ignored it not wanting any aggravation from the franchisees. I am also a seven figure operation and the FSM's on their rare visits
never bothered with the frame boards. The last conference call last week brought up some positive issues and we will have to wait and see.

      • I agree, it does not make sense. Lux is just now getting their arms around the Cole merger. And like you said, they do not know the franchise business and are trying to get their arms around it. Why, at this time, make rules about what a franchisee can or can't do?

Also look at what Lux has done historically. First there was a Lux frame requirement for providers. There was a lot of backlash to this new rule. They have now backed away from it.

I think what you are seeing is a rep, running on rumor, making statements he cannot back up. I would wait until much later this year before you start seeing changes.
