    block trades

How do you know whether these block trades of the last 2 days on Reuter's news are buy or sell?

    • I would only guess they were a buy. I think the
MM is pulling down the price when a trader says he's
got a someone that wants alot at that price. I think
it's also what happend 2 weeks ago when a block trade
      went through for 1M shares to buy at 8 1/2. It's a
      good sign.

        S&P
analyst Scott Kessler is keeping his opinion
        on Pier
        1 Imports ( >PIR). The company reported
        fiscal
1999 second quarter earnings per share of $0.17,
        $0.01
        below Kessler's estimate, versus $0.22 (after a
        one-time
$0.05 gain). Kessler expects aggressive marketing
        and
expansion plans to drive future revenue growth.
        He thinks
PIR is attractive at 12 times his
        $0.76 fiscal 1999
estimate, and 9 times his fiscal
        2000 forecast of $0.94,
        with expected long-term
        earnings growth rate in high
        teens.

        I'm not
sure what those block trades are when they announced
them as 174,100 shares crossed by (Name of Institution
or what ever). I don't think they are buys, could be
a sell. Anyone know what crossed means? Why don't
        they say bought or sold?
        Any one know?
