Having worked in the retail industry for decades, I admire what Macy's has accomplished. Over the years I have severly been critical of the low maintanace of fitting rooms, excessive freight in the asiles, the poor conditions of elevators and restrooms. BUT Macy's has addressed these issues in their KEY units. Certainly not up the high standards of Nordstrom, but Macy's caters in a far different customer and for the most part in those markets which do not have the income levels to attract a Nordstrom. But that said, I have shopped in Macy's for years, and quite honestly most of my purchases are not done at Macy's but at outlet centers. I know brands and quality and wait for the 2nd and mostly the 3rd markdown at Nordstrom, Brooks Brothers, and LLBean. I have been asked by clerks to open an account, but politely say, no. I have sometimes lied and said " My discovercard is giving me extra bonus points right now, and I choose to use that, thanks anyway.
When uses civility to salespersons, one gets civility back. The clerk is just doing their job, in the "closing of the sale" by mentioning a Macy's account.
