For the longest time I have used a full service broker but have been caught out with the minimum commission when I did not get a complete fill in ONC. Would someone recommend a discount broker they are happy with. Interestingly when I enquired about opening an account with ETRADE I was told company policy not to open accounts for offshore Canadians. That surprised me as you find a lot of offshore private bankers are not prepared to take on American customers, Canadians did not present a problem. Of course brokers are not bankers. Thank you.
Well, where I have my account in Canada they charge 1% with a minimum commission of $150. At an offshore broker I deal with, it's 0.35% with a minimum of $100. So you can see domestic brokers are less competitive. Both are call in services and I am okay with the commissions if the instruction order requires monitoring by the broker. You can appreciate that with the small volumes of ONCY one can get caught with an incomplete fill and the effective commission rate goes up.
