Substantial. It would have to be. To quote Joy Global CEO, Sutherlin:“If somebody, GE or somebody else, wanted to come and make an offer that was very attractive for our shareholders, we’d do the right thing for our shareholders” and customers, Sutherlin said. “I think it would take a significant premium to justify that. We think our business is worth a lot.”
In my more than 50 years of investing experience, I've noticed over and over again that the more a takeover rumor is talked up the less likely it is to become a reality. I'm highly skeptical that there's any truth to takeover rumors when the stock is going down. The guys at GE are not stupid; they know how to keep a secret. When the whole world knows the secret, it's not a secret. GE doesn't work that way. If GE was really going to take over JOY, it would have already happened or it's not going to happen. If you like the company, buy the stock. But, don't buy the rumor.
