    • does a big company panic near bottom

It may be time to panic thay may be no were near the bottom gold and silver down to 2008 and 2009 lows 50% more downside.

    • Geo_ Good description of all the considerations that have to factor into a future robbing high grading decision. I personally don't see Coeur reaching for that tool box until these manipulated prices show they have the durability to last several years. There are too many red flags flying over the world financial situation to expect this PM suppression game to outlast a solid miner like Coeur. Use of margin may result in some of us watching the Coeur train leave us behind at the station... but leave the station, it will.

    • longer term mining decisions involve the distribution of ore and potential ore, capital costs distributed over time, availability of appropriate labor and equipment in a timely fashion, political and labor issues, corporate balance sheet health and corporate alternatives and a host of other factors...

adjusting the field of those decisions to new conditions along the reality of price, cost and time is now a continuously possible computational exercise that in a fair, free market place unencumbered by fraud and political nonsense should theoretically optimize resource utilization, not mismanage the optimal use of resources...IMO...

when the tools of futures contracts, environmental roadblocks, deliberately created labor unrest, and price manipulation are used by some as mechanisms to create volatility resulting in higher rewards for those doing the deliberate manipulation, then there is waste and reflexive decision making of all involved in the actual mining process...

"high grading" in the classical sense of simplicity is definitely a reasonable response, and probable, for some of the smaller miners that are known through these discussions...and that will take the form of alternating the order of mining of individual veins or vein sections to get higher grade ore first into the mill and/or not including lower grade into the feed to not expanding into full new mill capacity...and those possibilities should be evident to at least a few folks and should differentiate one's investment decision process in this low price situation...the fact that the stock market place is NOT doing this is one more indication to me that almost all stock prices are contrived...right NOW...

the response of all to this false situation is to create more WASTE...of various kinds...

it is getting uglier by the day, IMO...for all societies...

beyond what you asked...because we have capabilities beyond what existed in 1900...
