I was the all time fool, Try losing almost 200k of my 401k(2008), being taken down to about 10k, then rebuilding in 3 years (using a 15k line of credit) it to 350k, all on going long or selling and waiting. First 2 years were sheer agony. Never stop studying stocks, create mock portfolios of stocks that interest you and add to it regularly. After about 2 years you will know more about those stocks, and what to expect. I'm not a chartist, learned my lesson about protecting my assets. But try to track about 2 dozen stocks to varying degrees and you'll be surprised what you will learn.
