A 2 hour protest took place outside of WCC Headquarters protesting the pivatization of Florida Prisons. Protesters were claiming that WCC had failed to save the State of Fl. the forcasted 7% savings to the Fl. taxpayers and that that current private operations should revert back to state control. Additional Issues discussed can be found at WWW.miamiherald.com in the Friday and Saturday Editions(2-5 &2-6-99).
The article, which I have also read, said there were seven private prisons in Florida. five run by WHC or CCA, two by another company not named. It said the savings were in the vicinity of 2%. It DID NOT specify which companies were saving how much. I, too, would be interested in knowing. It also said that the state of Florida is putting new prisons on hold, and is considering taking over the seven when current contracts end.
