Theescape is the first from New Zealand's only privateprison which opened in June and is run byAustralasian Correctional Management. AugustLemon (alias August Broughton), of Whangarei, had beenin the prison for five days waiting for a courthearing on aggravated wounding, receiving andburglary charges. Under ACM's contract with theDepartment of Corrections the company must pay $50,000for every escape.
