HEADLINE: Wackenhut Corrections Opens New Prison for Federal Bureau Of
    Prisons in Winton,
    North Carolina

Wackenhut Corrections Corp. (NYSE: WHC) today announced it has received
the "Notice To Proceed" verification from the U.S. Department of
Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) for the opening of the
Company's newest correctional facility, Rivers Correctional Institution
located in Winton, North Carolina. The facility was designed, built, and
financed by Wackenhut Corrections Corporation ("WCC") in accordance with
    the specifications of the BOP.

On March 7, 2000, the BOP contracted with WCC to provide and operate
a 1200-bed, low security, adult male facility. The contract for the
management of the facility is a fixed-price contract with revenues for
the three-year initial period and seven option years expected to total
$327 million, not including award fees. Further, the contract provides
for payment of services exclusive of occupancy commencing on March 7,

Dr. George C. Zoley, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
WCC said, "We are pleased to receive the Notice to Proceed from the
BOP. Due to the hard work and dedication of our Winton management team
and the tremendous cooperation from the BOP Mid-Atlantic Regional and
Central Offices as well as the Town of Winton and Hertford County
officials, we were able to complete the $63
million project on schedule in just 365 days from contract award." The
Winton Correctional Institution is the second facility operated by WCC
    on behalf of the BOP.

Dr. Zoley went on to say, "The facility will be managed under the
direction of WCC's Warden, Dr. Calvin R. Edwards. Dr. Edwards has over
23 years of experience with the BOP, where he held the position of
    Warden at four federal prisons; Regional Director of three BOP Regions;
and Assistant Director of the Agency. Just prior to joining WCC, Dr.
Edwards served as the Executive Deputy
Director and Interim Director of the District of Columbia Department of
Corrections. We are very pleased to have such a seasoned and dedicated
correctional professional as part of our global management team."
Rivers Correctional Institution is located on a 257-acre tract in a
rural area west of Winton, Hertford
County, North Carolina. The facility is a campus design with four
    housing buildings, recreational areas, a
central programs building, an administrative building exterior to the
    two perimeter fences, a prison
industries building, and four perimeter towers. The design enables
    cost-effective utilization of security
staff supplemented by modern electronic surveillance. The healthcare
unit's design is consistent with the
    predicted needs of the population.
