    Guard arrested for stabbing inmate
Delco jail guard faces stab charge

    Daily News Staff Report

A suspended Delaware County prison guard surrendered to authorities
yesterday after a warrant was issued for his arrest in the stabbing of
    an inmate inside his cell.

Thernell Hardy Jr., 33, of Chester, voluntarily turned himself in to the
    district attorney's office in Media.

Delaware County District Judge Richard M. Cappelli arraigned Hardy
on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly
endangering another person and a weapons offense. Hardy has
worked for 22 months as a private guard at the George W. Hill
    Correctional Facility in Concord Township.

He posted 10 percent of $5,000 bail and was released.

The inmate, Kareem Bahiy, 22, who is awaiting trial in the June 5
slaying of John Ostilio, the night manager of a CVS pharmacy in
Springfield, received four stitches to close a three-quarters-of-an-inch
cut on the right side of his neck Saturday night at Crozer-Chester

According to an affidavit, Bahiy, locked down in his cell 22 out of 24
hours, was making obscene comments to Hardy and other guards and
reached out of the cell's slot to grab Hardy.

Bahiy told authorities that Hardy ordered a control-room officer to
open Bahiy's cell, came into the cell and cut him on the neck.

Hardy told authorities he pushed Bahiy's arm back in the cell and
    scratched him with his thumbnail.

Investigators did not find Hardy with a weapon, but a day later,
allegedly found a six-inch knife under the driver's seat in his car.
