    Develop Three New Immigration Detention Centres Totaling 3,000 Beds

    Wackenhut Corrections Corporation (NYSE: WHC) today announced its Australian
    company, Australasian Correctional Management Pty Limited ("ACM"), is in
    negotiations with the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural
    Affairs ("DIMA"), in relation to contingency requirements to accommodate up to
    3,000 low-security unauthorized arrivals. The company currently operates six
    centres for the department, housing approximately 3,500 detainees.

    George C. Zoley, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Wackenhut
    Corrections Corporation ("WCC"), said, "The company is committed to supporting
    DIMA in its efforts to plan for a possible and unprecedented influx of
    unauthorized arrivals." Temporary contingency facilities under consideration
    are defense facilities at Singleton in New South Wales to accommodate
    approximately 1,000 beds; El Alamein in South Australia to accommodate
    approximately 1,200 beds; and HMAS Coonawarra in the Northern Territory to
    accommodate approximately 900 beds. Should these temporary contingency
    facilities be required, it is proposed that they will be managed by ACM.

    Sydney-based ACM has contracted with the Australian Department of
    Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to provide a national immigration
    detention and transportation service since 1997. The centres are strategically
    sited across the length and breadth of the continent.
