    Aeroti Ti for GE

Who supplies GE with their Ti for their aircraft engines? With all the new 777's with GE engines who will be the Ti winner? Thanks!

    • Kelmac,

I am not exactly sure who supplies
GE with the Ti for their engines. I do not know any
supplier who has an exclusive LTA with them as TIMET does
for Rolls and Pratt. The weight of the Ti in these
planes is what will hopefully start turning this ship
around (175,000 pounds of Ti/777 apprx)

      So far
from all reports it looks like there are 30 firm
orders and up to a total of 20 more making the number
      50.

For more specifics on the engine (the
GE90) you can check it out here--->

      Hope this helps

The numbers sound acccurate. A poster mentioned an
interest in finding out WHO would get the titanium win for
GE engines in 777. I would like to point out that
the MAJORITY of titanium in ANY wide-body jet will
NOT be in the engines (and Arslanboy did -not-
suggest this) but in the fusalage spars.

        Last I
heard, TIE had an -exclusive- contract with BA on the
spars ... is THIS still the case ?

        How many
'spare spars' does BA currently have ? Is it enough to
cover the entire order of 50 ? When does this stuff
burn off and BA have to negotiate the contract with
        TIE again ???

aeroti - any thoughts on this
        ?

Also, I thought RTI was more focused on Engine titanium
parts and TIE more focused on Fusalage parts ... is
this the case ? If so, doesn't this mean that RTI gets
        the GE Ti win ?

        Thanks
