The DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) allows the consumer to view digital TV broadcasts and audio programs with handheld devices like mobile phones, PDAs and in-car devices.
DMB is typically ubiquitous and is all about the convergence of broadcasting and telecom services. The Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB)system based on the Eureka-147 spec has been deployed in several countries in Europe and North America. However, its application has been mainly limited to digital radio broadcasts.

Korea has outpaced Europe by commercially launching a DMB service that delivers not only digital radio broadcast but also a digital TV broadcast. DMB is opening up a new market in Korea and Japan. There are two kinds of DMB services. One is the satellite DMB (SDMB) that allows consumers to view satellite transmissions on their handheld devices. The other is the terrestrial DMB (TDMB) that is based on land-based broadcast towers to provide a multi-channel broadcasting service. On Jan. 10, the TU Media, the nations single license holder for SDMB, launched its SDMB service on a pilot run before its commercial launch in May. In the case of TDMB, six licenses are expected to be issued in May 2005
