Korea's Incheon International Airport emerged as the third-largest in the world in terms of cargo handling last year, demonstrating the country is becoming a logistics hub for Northeast Asia.
Freight traffic at Incheon International, located 40 km west of the capital Seoul, totaled 2.1 million tons in 2005, the Transportation Ministry said.
Hong Kong International Airport took first place in that category, handling 3.4 million tons, followed by Japan's Narita International Airport outside Tokyo with 2.2 million tons.
Cumulative freight traffic at Incheon recently passed the 10-million-ton mark, setting a new milestone for the airport, which opened five years ago.
