Samsung, LG Conquer U.S. Digital TV Market
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are doing well in the U.S. digital TV market. Last month we posted US$373 million in sales in the U.S., a Samsung spokesman said Wednesday -- the first time that the Korean giant has crossed the $300 million mark there. The figure is even more impressive given that $320 million was the companys entire TV sales in the U.S. market in 2002.

Even though August is part of the vacation season and not a peak sales time, we still managed to set record-breaking sales, Samsung Electronics Americas consumer electronics chief Park Jae-soon said. In September the heavy sales period really gets going, so we expect to move even more units.

LG Electronics said its 42-inch LCD TV with built-in digital video recorder or so-called time machine TV was designated by the U.S. IT specialty magazine Electronic House as one of its products of the year. LG is the only company to offer a flat-screen digital TV that integrates a high-definition digital video recorder, the magazine said.

Next year, 30 percent of all of LG TV sales will be time machine type units, Yoon Sang-han, the head of LG Electronics Display Unit says.
