Dividend Channel is always extremely light on facts in their articles, and that's clearly also the case in the blurb you point to.
They make no mention of why it's a good stock/company to own, merely pointing out the dividend rate and what Weis purchased at.
I believe the only reason anyone points to this stock is because of the dividend yield - yet they did the same at every price all the way back to $10. I think the current stock price is a reflection of the fact that more people are aware that just because a stock pays a hefty dividend, even in a low interest rate environment, is no reason to rush out and buy it. Those folks who were astounded and buying at $7, $8, $9, and $10 won't be seeing a profitable position for quite some time - even sitting back collecting 10%+.
This company has problems. The outsized dividend is there simply for Howard/Cantor to be sucking it dry. I don't see any other reason. It's not as though BGCP is sitting on a cash hoard - they took loans to get their current cash position. They are paying dividends out of loans.
I see things getting worse here. Buying up others' trash is generally not a good way to utilize your money - most people know "you get what you pay for".
